About Abi
I am a poet, workshop organiser, playwright and educator who is interested in the merging of personal and political writing.
My journey began with the mouthy poetry collective at the age of 9 and now 11 years later, manifests in many different ways and alongside multiple organisations.
These organisations include but are not limited to: UNESCO City of Literature, Nottingham Playhouse, Writing East Midlands and more recently: Cambridge University and Royal Exchange Theatre
Within these organisations, I explore the ways in which playwriting, poetry and educational workshops can maximise accessibility for all audiences - whether this is through the themes I explore or the way I choose to format my work.
My writing and practice is fundamentally an exploration of human empathy and what it means to be a human who cares.
Featuring: being on the outskirts of a poetry collective as a nine-year-old, learning differently, one teacher changing everything, dyslexia, the art of noticing everyone in the room, being a sponge, the importance of shout-outs, making art accessible, mentorship, imposter syndrome, curating an open mic that feels like home, vulnerability being more than just being a puddle of tears, paperclips, making good of bad situations, writing a novel, balance, and following your creative spark.
