About Gareth

I have followed my life-long love of words into poetry.

Writing to make sense of the world; on beauty, transience, the meaning of things. I met Jim through a (superb) online course he was leading, and found a community I never knew existed.

Now, amidst the endless rush of school runs and Teams calls, you can find me on Substack writing it out:

Featuring: capturing everyday moments, bad writing by good writers, turning back towards poetry at 40, Dads continuing to show up in our poems, precision on the page, poems being everywhere, generous versus critical feedback, ‘you’re a better poet than this’, starting with death, the long game of poetry, getting out of the way of our own writing, directness as a superpower, and still finding the joy in a blank page.

With forever gratitude to my brother, Tom Hall, for providing the opening/closing soundtrack.
